#1 bestselling author Jeffery Deaver has created the most riveting and original novel of the year-a race-against-the-clock mystery, told in reverse.
THE OCTOBER LIST
Gabriela waits desperately for news of her abducted daughter.
At last, the door opens.
But it's not the negotiators. It's not the FBI.
It's the kidnapper.
And he has a gun.
How did it come to this?
Two days ago, Gabriela's life was normal. Then, out of the blue, she gets word that her six-year-old daughter has been taken. She's given an ultimatum: pay half a million dollars and find a mysterious document known as the "October List" within 30 hours, or she'll never see her child again.
A mind-bending novel with twists and turns that unfold from its dramatic climax back to its surprising beginning, THE OCTOBER LIST is Jeffery Deaver at his masterful, inventive best.

Oh what a disappointment. As a big fan of Deavers I was thoroughly disappointed with this convoluted effort at a story. It is truly complicated and very hard to read.It is ever harder to decipher when read on a Kindle (as I did) - I HAD FORGOTTEN THE END BY THE TIME I REACHED THE START. Bottom Line - don't destroy your affection for Deavers other books by buying this one.

As a long time fan of the works of Jeffery Deaver it is disappointing to be less than enthusiastic about his latest endeavor The October List. While Deaver has indeed made it clear in the Foreword that this is a story told backward, in other words we begin by reading Chapter 36 first and working our way up (or down) to Chapter 1. He also shares how the idea for writing such a book came to him and what a challenge it was to write. Sorry to say it was no less challenging for me to read.
In brief the premise is Gabriela McKenzie's six-year-old daughter, Sarah, has been kidnaped. Gabriela is office manager for Prescott Investments. Her boss, Charles Prescott, heads the firm but he has run away from a police investigation. So, here we are with Sarah and Prescott both missing. For the safe return of Sarah the kidnapper, Joseph Astor, wants $500,000 ransom and a mysterious paper - the October List, which supposedly holds the names of high profile clients of Prescott Investments.
Time is running out as the kidnapper has given Gabriela only two days to meet his demands. Assisting her in dealing with Joseph is a rather unlikely white knight - Daniel Reardon, a fund manager. Is he really an undercover cop? Not at all, she met him in a bar. Unlikely for a mother who is on the verge of a nervous breakdown due to her missing daughter, but Gabriela still manages to pull herself together enough to admire Daniel's pecs and broad shoulders as well as the warm feel of his thigh against hers.
The story progresses (or regresses) with facts changing as we move along. All very confounding. Then when we finally reach Chapter 1 there is not any resolution, but how could there be when in reality that is the beginning of the story?
Hope other readers find entertainment and satisfaction with The October List - I'm looking forward to Deaver's next offering which is a sequel to his aces thriller, The Bone Collector.
