Arthur Frommer is calling the new Easy Guide series fresh and authoritative at an inexpensive price. I am a "guidebook junky" so approached this book with excitement. However, I was disappointed to find nothing new, just the same things Jeanette Foster has written in her other guides to Hawaii, such as the Pauline Frommer Guide to Hawaii (2008) which I actually like better. (As a matter of fact, I have several older guides to Hawaii by various authors, and when I look at the latest editions, there is not that much different in them either; Lonely Planet is a partial exception; I like their new lightweight pages and interesting format.) Just my opinion; shorter is not always better. Let me also weigh in on the glossy picture issue; I do not agree with those who fault travel books for their lack of pictures; I think pictures are featured so much because they are cheaper to insert than new and interesting text. When planning a trip, we need to browse travel books to find the best fit, then supplement with information from other sources, such as the internet. Thank you.

Book itself is good..... Shortened but good. But I was disappointed with the map. Frommers maps are usually heavy duty and glossy and more detailed and I use them all the time for my trips. This map is papery and not detailed enough.
