From Publishers Weekly
Romantic suspense queen Sala (Blood Trails) launches a series with this enticing and exciting contemporary. Barely clinging to life on a tall tree as devastating floodwaters surge around her, Nola Landry witnesses something even more terrifying—a triple homicide. The Stormchaser is a brutal and twisted serial killer who haunts towns that have been ravaged by natural disasters, taking seven lives in Nola's Louisiana parish alone. No one has ever seen his face or witnessed his crimes until now. The FBI has been tracking him, and this latest crime brings profiler Tate Benson back to the hometown he left years ago—and to Nola, his ex. As Nola and Tate reconnect, burying past hurts and working toward a future together, the Stormchaser comes after Nola. Skillfully balancing suspense and romance, Sala gives readers a nonstop breath-holding adventure. Agent: Meredith Bernstein, Meredith Bernstein Literary Agency. (Oct.)

Sharon Sala has given us another book about crazy weather and crazy killers. It's enough to make me more wary of storms in the future.
The book begin immediately with a seriously ill heroine being forced to leave her flooding house and climb a tree to escape being swept away by rapidly rising flood waters. While in her tree, she witnesses the murder of her neighbors, who are trapped on their roof, by a man dressed as a law officer who uses his disguise to get close enough to his victims to make a fast kill. Knowing that if she's discovered, she'll meet the same fate, she keeps quiet as he passes below her. She gets a poor view of him, not enough to identify him, but she is the only witness to a killer.
When she is found and rescued, unconscious from her fever and exposure, she tries to tell what she's seen, but is not believed because of her illness until the FBI shows up after several of the recovered bodies show that they died from gunshot wounds, rather than drowning. The FBI task force, who have been following a serial killer who finds his victims in the wake of natural disasters, realize that a witness is a major break, even if she didn't get a good look at him and mobilizes to protect her.
As luck (and the plot) would have it, the profiler of this group is the heroine's first and only love. They had lost touch when the hero showed up at her house late one night, telling her he had to leave town now and demanding she come with him this second, no questions allowed. Not understanding and unable to get further information from the hero, they fight and he leaves. She doesn't see him again until she wakes in the hospital.
