I love reading books on dermatology as I have had challenges with my skin; and although I have read many such books, I still learned some things from this one. I like Dr. Lancer's book because he devotes much of his writing telling us how we can take care of ourselves at home. It seems to me that most doctors would rather have you come into their office for expensive treatments. Dr. Lancer does mention his products and his method quite a bit, but he also suggests many inexpensive products for those on a budget. The book is a good supplement to use in addition to asking questions of your own dermatologist. I would have given it a five star rating if he would have mentioned his own very expensive products a little less.

I found this book to be chocked full of useful information about skin, health and diet, and Dr. Lancer's "method" of skin exfoliation is new to me. While some of skin care tips are not new (e.g., use sunscreen), the book does a great job simplifying and organizing conflicting skin care advice, and explaining that good skin care practices are better in the long run than expensive procedures. I've changed up my skincare routine to follow the "basic anti-aging method" from the book. I am using the drug store options recommended in the book, not the more expensive products from Dr Lancer, and its been a long time since my skin has been so clear and glowing.
