About the Author
Jay Crownover is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Marked Men series. Like her characters, she is a big fan of tattoos. She loves music and wishes she could be a rock star, but since she has no aptitude for singing or instrument playing, she'll settle for writing stories with interesting characters that make the reader feel something. She lives in Colorado with her three dogs.

First I want to start off on a good note by saying I loved Rule (written by the same author). Then I read Jet, the companion book to Rule, and thought not as good...not really even close. But I decided to give Rome a chance none the less because hello, hot soldier and brother to Rule, how could this go wrong? Well it went all kinds of wrong. I get that Jay Crownover obviously writes what she knows, and she knows and loves tattoo guys, but come on lets change the formula a bit girl. She is a talented writer so I know it is in her, but it is like she does not trust herself enough to stray a little bit with her writing. You can still write about your "marked men" just change the story up a little.
I liked Rome enough as a character I guess, but found myself completely detached from Cora. She was a girl that was supposed to be so tough and looking and waiting for Mr. Right but a few minor encounters with Rome and his "bad boy" attitude and good looks have her giving in rather quickly. There was little to no build up in their relationship, or there attraction to one another for that matter so when they finally "hooked up" I was left feeling unsatisfied. They did not seem to have any chemistry at all, which is very awkward for this genre. Honestly I'm not sure exactly why it is these two wanted to get together in the first place, or what kept them together later.
Now here is my biggest complaint, and maybe I am being too hard on Jay Crownover, but I have to say it. Men do not talk like this, or have relationships with other men like she portrays in her books. Now to be fair she did not do this in Rule, but as we extended into Jet and Rome, the friendship with all the boys turned way to girlie for me.
****I was given an ARC of this book for my honest review****
Cora is fun loving pint sized receptionist and piercer, she meddles in everyone else's lives after having her heart broken she only wants the perfect guy. Rome is far from perfect, he is finally home trying to figure out how to fit into civilian life. The two of them aren't what each other were looking, but they are exactly what each of them needs and they are about to find out that perfect is overrated. Rome is the third book in the Marked Men series while it can be read as a stand alone I would suggest reading the first two books to get the background on the other characters, and they are really good. Cora loves her boys, she loves her job, she loves to meddle and when she finds a perfect man she is going to settle down and have the perfect little life. Other than Cora being completely delusional because really nobodies perfect, I liked her she was a sarcastic take charge woman who had her heart broken. She acted like a complete idiot sometimes, but she had a good heart and once she loved someone she was ready and willing to do everything possible to help them. Rome poor Rome he was battling his own demons, at times he may have acted like a jerk but with what was going on in his head I don't blame him. There was one thing in this book that was a huge problem for me, but that was only because it has become a big pet peeve of mine that seems to be happening in a lot of books lately, I know that was vague but to avoid spoilers I'm just going to leave it at that, except to say yes it does have to do with sex in the book. Cora and Rome don't seem like they fit together, at times certain times it felt it a little bit the relationship was forced, and I didn't really understand what it was beyond circumstances that held these two together.
