I am an avid hunter here in Australia, Im also an avid reader. As I read its easy to tell if the writter has had personal expierience with his topic. This shines through in Grid Down. I have read many books in this genre as in my opinion, blind freddy could see that the world, without dramatic intervention is not heading for the constant "growth at all costs" and "We will prosper just squeeze the stone harder" scenario. The problem is that since the industrial age we have lost touch with the skills that we used for thousands of years. We believe there will always be a bank, a supermarket, a "someone else" to provide for us. The truth is we stand at the tipping point, and if I were a betting man I would say that given the option saving the world or cutting and running, the play makers will cut and run 9 times out of ten.
What I LOVED about this book is that it shows a balanced perspective of different levels of preparedness, from the backpack survivalist to those who already live an off grid lifestyle. Not to mention it is a book that is very hard to put down. It is realistic and there are a few tips that I have taken to task and work. There is a very minimal amount of product placement, but it is entirely appropriate, its worth reading for that alone.
I have read every book in this genre available on kindle so far and I rate this most highly.
I also contacted Bruce in regards to his world renowned snares and he personaly sent me information on thier use in my country and his passion for his trade certainly shines though.
