With the Scooby gang on the skids, Buffy finds herself increasingly alone. When faced with some tough decisions grounded in “real world” problems (i.e., not the slaying of pesky demons), Buffy is determined to make her own choices, but that doesn’t mean she won't need a little handholding along the way. Cue Spike, compelled to stand by his best friend in her moment of need. Together they'll tackle the increasing zompire population and a rogue Slayer out for blood. Collects Buffy Season 9 #6–#10; and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer: In Space No One Can Hear You Slay!” from Free Comic Book Day 2012.

A continuation of the Season Nine volume for Buffy; this follows the slayer as she contends with zompires, a rogue slayer, and a well meaning but clueless member of her supporting cast thinking he was doing her a favour. Spike is along for the arc, and the creative team does very well in conveying the personality and essence of these characters, particularly the rich and complex history between Buffy and Spike. The pacing of the story moves along nicely, with some rather unusual twists along the way.

Wow. I never thought I'd say this (ever) but I'm going to say it: It's time to stop making Buffy comics. Fonzie on waterskis, except on the page.
Here come the spoilers....
The plot: Buffy is preggers, and decides to go the abortion route. This likely generated milquetoast controversy and sold an extra bundle of issues. But don't worry folks, this isn't an instance of a woman making an actual pro-choice decision, it's an instance of Buffy's brain inexplicably being transported into a robot. Andrew thought he'd worked out all those gosh durn food processing kinks, but schucks, I guess not! Plans left behind by Warren, blah blah, terrible writing, no witty dialog, skim skim, flip flip, yet another dumb dream about Buffy having a stepford wife life (you'd think she'd be over that by now), some terrible hairshirt looking outfit on Buffy, and Buffy needing Spike for drive-by nonjudgmental comfort. Yikes.
Note to writers: if you are resuscitating Buffybot, your comic is dead.
Dawn and Xander make a cameo to fight some things and drop a cell phone. Yep. That covers it.
Willow? No where to be found.
Kennedy? Left a note or something, but who has ever cared about Kennedy?
The word "Steampunk" is dropped six or seven times, perhaps in a desperate bid to attract a new audience that would actually find an airship full of cockroaches interesting.
Random forgettable villain.
Spike and Buffy have a moment, but be rest assured that despite being in her twenties, there's no chance of an emotional decision that isn't overwhelmingly high school, and at this point, tired.
I loved-loved-loved Buffy, and even made it all the way through season 8, but this latest turn is tragic. It's downright boring. New writers or new plot please, or just stick a stake in it and call it done.
