Entertainment Weekly gave both projects an "A." SONY and FX networks are currently developing POWERS for series with Brian as exec producer.

This TPB is a collection of the re-launched Uncanny X-Men. It contains issues #1-5, written by Brian Bendis and some really unique artwork by Chris Bachalo and Frazer Irving. It can be hit or miss to some, but I quite like the break from "traditional" comic art. It's a stylized look with low saturation and simple colors, and is contrasted nicely with some great design for the areas in Limbo.
The story is definitely a "new beginning." In the wake of the Phoenix events of Avengers Vs. X-Men, a lot has changed with some of the characters in the X-Men series. Cyclops has been branded a lunatic and a traitor; a danger to everyone. He leads a mutant revolution with now-friend Magneto and fellow Phoenix hosts, Magik and Emma Frost.
Their powers have been crippled by the Phoenix, and each of the team members must deal with their newfound lack of control. There is also plenty of dialog that helps play catch-up for those who have not read AvX or other preceding material. I think it comes off very well, especially the opening dialog between Scott and Emma in issue #2.
Despite the drop in powers, they still showcase themselves well to onlookers as they meet and recruit newly discovered mutants. These mutants show the same confusion and awe as many others have when discovering their gifts, but they seem to serve as a newcomer's point of view to the events happening. They do little to add to storylines beyond this added perspective, but in that role, they are very good.
I like the direction Bendis is taking Uncanny X-Men. I was very happy with All New X-Men, and this ties in quite nicely telling the other side of the post-AvX storyline. I highly recommend reading Avengers Vs.

After a 5-year+ stint on Marvel’s Avengers titles (during which time he brought that book to preeminence among Marvel’s library of titles), Bendis has moved on to the X-Men books, hoping to do the same for them. It’s a big job and goal, but Bendis has done it before. He seems to have a magic touch and has turned in very good work in the past. So, does he have what it takes to get the job done with the X-Men books? So far, I’m not encouraged.
The collective X-Men are still reeling from the after-effects of the Phoenix possession. Most of the famous leaders of the X-Men (including Emma Frost and Scott Summers) are having problems with their powers, though they are trying to keep the world at large from learning this secret. Most of the team has taken to wearing new costumes, though I don’t particularly care for the look of most of these. Magneto wearing white is OK, but the White Queen wearing black doesn’t work for me. Cyclops’ new costume now lack any eyepiece. Instead of any sort of eye visor or glasses, he has a large “X” across his face with no eye holes. The new costume is all black with some red striping. It is far and away the worst costume he has ever worn, and probably the worst costume any x-man has ever worn. Terrible!
